Potential Game Modes For A Server

Potential Game Modes For A Server

Postby Gangsta Luigi » June 8th, 2016, 12:54 pm

While I know my suggestion for a Saxton Hale server is still being considered and stuff I figured I would suggest some other possible modes:

Deathrun

Deathrun is a mode where a large team on RED tries to make it through a long trap-filled course. Traps are activated by a single player on BLU.
Gameplay: https://youtu.be/vHM-RqD8TH4

TF2Ware

TF2Ware is a mod that's based off of the popular game series WarioWare. The objective is to do several different tasks (taunting, shooting in the air, rocket jumping) in a short time limit.
Gameplay: https://youtu.be/Ycq5iDtf0kY

Dodgeball

In Dodgeball, two teams of Pyros play dodgeball with homing critical rockets via use of airblast. The rocket gets exponentially faster each time it's reflected.
Gameplay: https://youtu.be/jduefZESAik

PropHunt

In PropHunt, one team plays as Scouts with player models that are identical to props on the map (crates, sinks, etc.) while the other team is Pyros tasked to find them.
Gameplay: https://youtu.be/VXWJH8mhJi0

FortWars

In FortWars, two teams use an in-game menu to build a fort out of props. The goal is to obtain the neutral flag in the map center and then hold it in your fort for 3 minutes.
Gameplay: https://youtu.be/MC4zndYnbJ4

x10 Mode
In x10, every weapon's stats are multiplied by 10. For instance, with the Fists of Steel, ranged weapons would do no damage, but you would die in one hit from a melee.
Gameplay: https://youtu.be/sHS_wgp0_ts

Randomizer

Randomizer spawns everyone with a random trio of items, regardless of class.

NOTE: I don't know how to get or install any of these so I can't help there - these are simply the modes I've played on over the years.

Let me know what you guys think! Personally I think Class Wars #2 should be changed to either Saxton Hale or one of these. I think it would be fun to have a custom silly server that we could have weekly game nights on. :D

I've played on Prophunt, Dodgeball, TF2Ware, and Deathrun servers many, many times. They many times they were more fun than normal servers, and many times the people on that play on those servers are funny, silly, and all around a great personality to play with.

All of these are fun and great ideas, but they may suffer even worse than Class Wars 2 in terms of traffic. If it is possible to install these plugins while also keeping them on the quickplay list, it would be ideal.

Another problem with this is of course, competition. Tons of players host their own of a few of these and that makes it hard someone to make a staple in the "market" (I don't know what to call this).

Ok, bad analogy time.

Players are like butter, and servers are like toast. You spread butter on toast like a bunch of players join servers.
You only have so much butter for your toast, and you don't want to put too much butter on a single piece of toast so you limit it.

But, if you have a crap ton of toast and not a lot of butter, you won't evenly distribute the butter.

Where was I going with this? Oh, yeah. All I'm saying is that while these servers are very popular, the supply and demand just barely match, making it hard for us to get consistent player counts.

Terribly explained concept, I know.
Beware my awkwardness! I am the thread killer.

I would have to disagree. CW 2 is never populated enough for quick play unless someone seeds it. I would reckon that custom popular game modes would get more traffic.

I dont know personally, yah our community if is pretty good, and im sure we could get people to seed it if we put out a notice and such, but its like what tru was saying, its a matter of can we make a community for the server where the people like the people, because thats why people usually stay is for the people. So its all a matter of finding people who can get that community running like how i did for class wars where all i would do for a solid 3 or 4 months would be just seeding cw#1 and it hit off pretty well

In my opinion, variety is advantageous. Having 2 class wars whe 1 is always dead seems pointless when we can offer a new mode that has potential for player attraction

I do like the idea of fortwars, I will have to try that soon, haven;t seen that before.

Back to topic, to get that third server going it will take regulars from dustbowl and cw1 to do it no matter what the mode it is. There are only so many regulars to go around. If all the regulars go to 3rd server, then the regular servers will be prone to dying more easily. I think we caught lightning in a bottle with classwars, its fairly unique. It will be a harder climb with the more common modes like saxton hale, dodgeball etc. I have numerous x10/dodge/prophunts on my favorites and they are all usually empty.

Interestinh...in my experience Saxton Hale is a popular mode and servers are populated. Maybe that's the best chance?

Kinda of agree with you on CW2. Lately I been wanting to join it but every time I hop on TF2 there is nobody on the server.

I have gotten the chance to play all of these and they are really fun modes and I do join a server that hosts all these game modes whenever I am playing TF2 late night and if I am lucky enough to find people playing it but then again every time I play it, the people who are in the server are so bad, not how they play but how they act with people which makes me hide chat sometimes because it gets that bad.

I think it would be a great addition if a Sax Hale server was added to have different game modes cycling in one server.
