Custom MvM Mission Server

Custom MvM Mission Server

Postby Gangsta Luigi » September 28th, 2016, 12:15 pm

So I basically had the idea that since we get virtually zero server traffic on any server besides Dustbowl, Class Wars and Orange, we could switch one of our other servers to a Custom Wave MvM server.

By "custom wave" I mean we create our own MvM missions. Instead of using Valve's pre-determined ones we can go into the settings and change what robots spawn, when they spawn, and how they behave. By doing this we could create scenarios where the robots' items synergize with each other.

Examples

Giant Pyro Bots with supporting critically boosted Sun-On-A-Stick Scout bots.

Concheror Soldiers with Giant Brass Beast Heavies.

Giant Sandman Scouts with supporting Cleaver-throwing Scouts.

Things like this would allow new, creative ways to play MvM.

Here is a Steam guide that contains all the information on creating your own custom MvM wave server.

Maybe we could have like a new mission on the server every month.

Anyone else have ideas as to what kinds of combinations we could make? Even if we don't go with this it'd be fun to brainstorm what a new wave would be. Since Valve will probably never update MvM again.

:O I think I can come up with a few waves. (I'm not gonna list them out right now, unless we actually go through with it though.) =w= It'd be neat.

I'm pretty sure there's a limit to how many robots can be active at once. I believe it's somewhere between 50-100.

We can have robots be based off of skivers

Heh, a Doc bot that targets sentries and melees them

I like the idea and it seems that with the extra server we are continuously throwing things at the wall to see what sticks... But, let's have a go at it.

One problem I have is that it would only allow a few people to join. This would also not be a very good way to get people to play on our other servers as MvM is a not very chatty gamemode.
Beware my awkwardness! I am the thread killer.

This is the problem I see with it, only 6 people at a time. On the other hand, 6/6 people is better than 0/24 so maybe its worth a try.

That is so wrong. You can get as much people as you want on the server. I used to play on a 12 players server with custom waves and unlimited money

Anywhere between 10-12 people would be good for custom bots, and other stuff. Over all this seems like a good idea.
