From what I've seen that's about average for a laptop, especially if it is being used heavily. I'd go desktop with your next pc - there's plenty of alternatives to laptops now for most 'on-the-go' type of stuff with the always burgeoning tablet selection.

I'd also recommend a desktop, but if your mind is set on a laptop, I'd HIGHLY recommend an Asus. They're well put together, fairly affordable, have great specs, and last for quite a long time.

I agree with johnny, my first gaming PC was an Asus. But, custom building a desktop is a lot better.

You can get a fairly decent one pre-built off of newegg.com for reasonable pricing then customize it as you get money or as the need arises.

I also agree with Johnny. Extremely content with my ASUS Gaming Laptop.
It's 2 years old, and I have no issues whatsoever with it. It's wonderful.

But honestly, I'd still recommend a desktop. Not sure how willing most people
are to lug around a 10lb laptop. I don't mind. Small for me, being used to
chucking 12 pound metal shotputs around for hours. But regardless, ASUS is
good.

I believe Bigdog and probably a few of the others (Sieve probably) could get
you some good general stuff to look into while making a custom computer.

If you want a laptop then it's all about getting the absolute max you can afford at the time, since upgrades will have more limitations. A desktop is definitely a better option if you want to do the "upgrade my video card every year" kind of thing. For Source engine games you can probably get away with something on the level I have (higher-end laptop), but if you want to run every new Titanfall-ish eye-sex fest that comes out, you want to go with a desktop, as they have a longer shelf-life due to easier component switching and have just better bang for your buck.

Overall I'd vote desktop, as my gaming laptop has ended up just being a desktop anyway because I got a cheap little notebook for carrying around to do life-task stuff. There's lots of guides for self-building on line; give them a look and ask us questions here.

Plus most laptops have integrated graphics (you can't upgrade it).
Some search never finding a way, before long they waste away.
