Power supplies

Postby Phaiz » October 17th, 2014, 9:59 am

I plan on adding a second identical graphics card but I'm going to have to upgrade my 550w to a 1000w (I think) since from what I can tell each card requires 500w. Are these interchangeable? Can I simply pull one out and put another one in?

They're pretty much interchangeable. If you wanted to double check you should be able to pull the dimensions off the manufacturer's website.

I switched up from a 350W to a 750W and all I had to do was unscrew the old one, put the new one in its place and re-run my power supply cables replacing old with new.

If you have the choice, I'd get a fully modular psu so that you don't have a ton of cords cluttering your case. Cluttered cords can make it a pain to work in the case and can snag fans (especially with bigger graphics cards or a plethora of case fans).

So it basically just comes down to if it can fit inside the case? Does the mobo have anything to do with it?

Nope. I think psu suppliers standardized a while ago and all the motherboards take the same connectors now.
