New maps

Postby Phaiz » July 6th, 2015, 9:46 am

I've changed Upward to Borneo for now. Keep in mind that players are able to join this map from quick play but you will not score points on contracts or complete the contracts related to the latest patch on a non-valve server.

I'm assuming that is the name of some custom map. Only official maps running official game modes will be on quick play. The only reason Borneo (or any other map in this update) will be on quick play is because they are (currently) running an official game mode. Once this whole campaign thing is over I would expect those maps to no longer be eligible.

Unfortunately the new maps have their custom assets packed inside the maps' files instead of adding them to tf2's texture pack. This is why they're all buggy & do not load properly for many players.

I'm not experienced with custom models or textures for maps but packing these things into the .bsp is normal. Personally I haven't seen any bugs with the new maps but who knows

Evidently they changed the way things are compressed for the map workshop or some such. It is supposed to help with file download speeds, but when the file is unpacked to load the map sometimes things go awry. Evidently it is very problematic if you run the map, change maps/servers, then come back to the map (suijin & borneo).
